Disability Pride Month is a time to honor the disability community’s milestones and history. It marks the anniversary of the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a transformative piece of legislation that prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in everyday life. The ADA states that people with disabilities must have the same opportunities as everyone else to enjoy employment and live life. This groundbreaking legislation and celebratory month epitomize everything our organization has fought for and reflect the values that define Humanim.
We were founded on the belief that every human being has potential. For 50+ years, we have worked tirelessly to break down barriers to employment opportunities and create economic equity for individuals with disabilities and socio-economic challenges. We’ve been proud advocates for the ADA, even long before its passing.
This month and all year round, we remain dedicated to ensuring that the individuals we serve have the same opportunities as everyone else to enjoy employment, success and life. This commitment directly reflects this month’s theme, “We Want a Life Like Yours,” as we strive to make the disability community’s dreams for life experiences that they are too often denied, a reality.
