At Humanim, we are always looking for ways to show our appreciation to the incredible team of Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) who make our mission possible. DSP Recognition Week was a special time to honor our everyday heroes who dedicate their lives to empowering the individuals we serve.
Throughout the week, Humanim staff celebrated each other with appreciation notes on the Humanim Hero board at all locations and daily treats. DSPs enjoyed massage therapy, relaxing yoga, homemade breakfasts, catered lunches, Humanim swag, and gift cards as tokens of gratitude. The week wrapped up with a fun and refreshing treat from Rita’s Italian Ice.
It was also on this final day that we proudly announced a new award: the Doug Hall Humanim Hero Award, named in honor of our esteemed former board member and chair, Doug Hall. This award recognizes a direct care staff member in our organization who provides heart-felt and compassionate care to help the most vulnerable among us live full and productive lives. The Humanim Hero Award celebrates their excellence, dedication, and impact, and honors their legacy as part of Doug’s vision for quality care services.
Terrence (Terry), a direct support professional in our Meaningful Day Program at our Gerwig Center, was the first recipient of this award! Terry is known for consistently putting those we serve first, and ensuring their needs and goals are met. He also helps in any capacity he can with a smile on his face, including tasks outside of his typical duties such as tending to the garden and cleaning up around the building. Terry not only makes a difference in the lives of the individuals we serve, but also has a lasting impact on his colleagues and everyone he meets.
We want to express our deepest gratitude to every member of our team providing direct care to those we serve. You are the backbone of Humanim, and your dedication makes all the difference.
