Celebrating Joy: Adriana Thrives at Humanim

Adriana joined Humanim’s Behavioral Support Services (BSS) day program earlier this year, and it has been a wonderful adventure for her and her family. Before finding Humanim, Adriana faced significant challenges in other programs. Despite trying multiple options, none were able to accommodate her needs or respect her autonomy, leaving her and her family feeling frustrated and distressed. On Adriana’s first day, her mother was so worried that she couldn’t bring herself to leave the parking lot, fearing this option might not work for her daughter either.

It didn’t take long before Adriana and her family began to place their trust in the staff at Humanim. “The biggest thing we’ve done to help Adriana’s family is maintain open and consistent communication. We’re always willing to try new things with her, helping her grow, explore her likes and dislikes, and have new experiences without fear or hesitation,” expresses Megan, the program manager working closely with Adriana. With a focus on a person-centered approach and community integration, these services ensure individuals can thrive in the least restrictive environment, just like Adriana, who found a place at Humanim where she can be herself.

Adriana is known for her bubbly personality, “she is very social, loves music, loves to dance, and enjoys being around people,” her mother explains. Bilingual in Spanish and English, Adriana brings a cultural exchange to her peers and staff, often teaching them Spanish as she communicates in both languages. “She enjoys being at Humanim” shares her mother, as her daughter’s new sense of confidence and independence shines through at home, where her family has noticed positive changes in her behavior. Staff at the program see her thriving as well, “her behaviors have subsided, and you can see the trust she has in everyone,” confirms Megan.

From day one, Adriana’s parents felt uplifted by Humanim’s committed team. The staff greet Adriana with genuine excitement and joy every single day she walks into the program. Her mother shares, “I’m so at peace when Adriana goes to Humanim because I know she is well taken care of.” For Adriana’s family, Humanim has become a place of comfort and happiness as her mother firmly believes “this place is really the best.”
