Meet baker, student, and bundt cake expert – Arianna! Before beginning her junior year at Loch Raven High School, Arianna took advantage of her recent summer break by advancing her career in Humanim’s summer Work Based Learning Experience (WBLE).
This program for youth ages 14-21 allows participants to work part-time at a site based on their own goals and interests. With her current baking skills up her sleeve and a desire to learn more, Arianna accepted an internship at Nothing Bundt Cakes in Nottingham.
During her assignment at the chain bakery, Arianna conquered new and familiar tasks such as operating a Point of Sales system, greeting and servicing customers, alongside baking and decorating bundt cakes. She also worked shoulder-to-shoulder with the store owner at Pratt Street Market in downtown Baltimore, running a Nothing Bundt Cake stand amongst local food trucks and vendors.
Through her outstanding customer service and task management during the event and in the store, Arianna received nothing but positive praise from her supervisor and peers. Herman, a case coordinator for Humanim’s Youth Transition Services proudly shares, “Arianna was always prepared to work when she arrived, she always had a positive attitude and a great work ethic.”
Arianna also earned a message of recognition from her supervisor stating, “Thank you for putting the E in effort when you come to work. You’re always on time and ready to work, it doesn’t go unnoticed.”
Arianna’s impeccable performance left a significant mark on the Nothing Bundt Cakes team. Influencing them to offer her an official weekend position during the school year!
With dreams of opening her own bakery in the future, Arianna looks forward to her part-time role while she takes intentional steps towards achieving her goals.
