Humanim + Melwood: Shared Purpose, Growing Impact

This quarter marks an exciting milestone in the partnership between Humanim and Melwood. As we continue to build on our shared commitment to empowering people with disabilities, we are thrilled to officially welcome participants and staff from Melwood Community Services into the Humanim family.

For individuals, families, and referral partners throughout Southern Maryland, this transition represents continuity, strength, and new opportunities for growth. Participants will continue receiving the person-centered support they rely on while gaining access to Humanim’s broad range of services, resources, and experience supporting people in achieving their goals and living meaningful, connected lives.

Humanim is proud to expand its Developmental Disabilities and Workforce Development Services’ presence in Prince George’s and Charles County, bringing our long-standing expertise in community integration, meaningful day services, behavioral support services, employment supports, and individualized services to even more people across the region.

Just as importantly, we are excited to welcome dedicated staff members from Melwood Community Services to the Humanim team. Their experience, commitment, and relationships with participants and families are invaluable, and we look forward to learning and growing together as one organization united by a shared purpose.

Our Commitment to Quality and our Core Values

“At Humanim, I have seen firsthand the power of person-centered support to transform lives and strengthen communities,” said Cindy Truitt, President of Humanim. “As we welcome participants and staff from Melwood Community Services, our commitment remains unwavering: to provide the highest quality care and support while honoring the dignity, goals, and unique potential of every person we serve. Humanim’s core values guide everything we do, and we are excited to bring that commitment to even more individuals and families throughout Southern Maryland.”

This transition is about more than growth—it is about expanding opportunity. By bringing together the strengths of Humanim and Melwood, we are creating new pathways for inclusion, independence, employment, and community connection for people of all abilities.

Looking ahead, our partnership with Melwood will also help expand access to innovative programs such as abilIT, a free 14-week workforce training program that prepares people with disabilities for careers in information technology, cybersecurity, and other high-demand technology fields.

To the families, participants, staff, and referral partners who have been part of this journey: thank you for your trust and support. We are excited about the future and look forward to serving Southern Maryland with the same compassion, quality, and person-centered approach that have been at the heart of Humanim’s mission for more than 55 years.

Together, we’re building stronger communities, expanding possibilities, and creating more opportunities for people to connect, contribute, and thrive.
