Humanim closed out Direct Support Professionals Recognition Week with a bang, celebrating the third Do-Besters Fest! This year’s celebration marked an exciting milestone for Humanim. It was our first Do-Besters Fest since becoming a Melwood affiliate and an opportunity to welcome 124 new employees from Melwood Community Services who have joined Humanim as part of our growing Southern Maryland team.
Growing Together, Serving More Communities
The addition of our Southern Maryland team represents an important expansion of Humanim’s reach and impact across the state. Bringing everyone together for Do-Besters Fest gave longtime and new team members an opportunity to connect, celebrate, and build relationships as one Humanim team.
During the celebration, the team gathered for a program featuring remarks from Brad Spencer, Vice Chair of our Board of Directors and Cindy Plavier-Truitt, President of Humanim, a Melwood affiliate. Together, they thanked staff for their dedication and recognized the meaningful impact they make each day in the lives of the people we support.
Introducing this Year’s Humanim Heroes
We also announced the recipients of the Humanim Hero Award, a legacy honor established in recognition of our former Board Chair, Doug Hall. This award celebrates the dedication, compassion, and unwavering commitment demonstrated by our direct support professionals and direct care staff.
This year, the award was presented to two exceptional team members who embody Humanim’s mission through their service, leadership, and commitment to those they support every day: Marion and Monique. Gratitude for Our Do-Besters
As Humanim embarks on this new chapter as a Melwood affiliate, coming together to celebrate and create memories reminds us that our greatest strength is each other. We are a team of self-starters, hard workers, risk takers, and do-besters who continually lift one another up and move forward together.
Thank you to the Melwood events team and volunteers for making this year’s Do-Besters Fest extra special for everyone at Humanim. And most importantly, thank you to our direct support professionals and direct care teams for the incredible work you do every day. Do-Besters Fest may happen once a year, but the impact of our do-besters is felt every day.
