October marks National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), a time to recognize the contributions of employees with disabilities and the importance of creating inclusive workplaces. At Humanim, we are celebrating the individuals who help make meaningful employment opportunities possible, including Monique, a dedicated job coach in our Supported Employment Program who joined us from our Southern Maryland team.
Throughout her years of service, Monique has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to supporting individuals with disabilities as they pursue their employment goals. Her compassion, professionalism, and dedication have made her a valued member of the team and a trusted source of support for the individuals she serves.
As a job coach, Monique works closely with participants to strengthen their workplace skills, build confidence, and achieve greater independence. She has personally mentored individuals transitioning into full-time positions and helped participants develop essential skills directly at their work sites. Her guidance and encouragement have played an important role in helping individuals maintain employment and experience meaningful career growth.
Beyond her direct work with participants, Monique serves as a vital connection between employers, families, and organizational leadership. By keeping everyone informed and focused on shared goals, she helps create an environment where individuals feel supported throughout their employment journeys.
When asked what she finds most rewarding about being a job coach, Monique shared that it’s “watching my individuals gain real independence, pride, and self-worth as they master new skills and earn their own income.” She emphasized the fulfillment of “helping my workers experience the dignity of a paycheck, self-reliance, and a true sense of belonging in the community.”
Monique’s impact extends beyond her daily responsibilities. Recognized by colleagues, families, and caregivers for her dedication and advocacy, she consistently demonstrates the importance of individualized support. She was also selected to represent her department at the Capitol, where she joined a participant in sharing their story and highlighting the importance of employment services.
As we celebrate NDEAM, Monique’s work reminds us of the importance of compassionate, person-centered support in helping individuals succeed in the workplace. We thank Monique for her continued dedication to the people and communities she serves and for her contributions to building a more inclusive workforce.
