Earlier today, a vehicle unrelated to Humanim operations crashed into our Gerwig Lane building in Columbia, Maryland.
We are deeply grateful to confirm that all Humanim staff and clients are safe and accounted for. At the time of the incident, individuals were participating in services in the community and not in that part of the building.
We are deeply saddened to share that the driver of the vehicle lost their life in the crash. Our heartfelt condolences go out to their family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.
We would like to extend our appreciation to Howard County emergency personnel for their swift and professional response. We remain in close communication with local authorities as the investigation continues.
At Humanim, the safety and well-being of the individuals we serve, our staff, and our community is our top priority. We remain fully committed to upholding that responsibility across all of our programs and locations. The building has been evacuated and is currently being assessed before normal operations can resume. In the meantime, all programs based at Gerwig Lane will temporarily relocate to our Woodside Court location until further notice.
We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available. Thank you to everyone who has reached out with concern and support. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at communications@humanim.org.
