A Tribute to our Former Board Chair: Christopher Eddings

The Humanim family is deeply saddened by the passing of Christopher A. Eddings, a visionary leader, longtime supporter, and former Board Chair. Mr. Eddings passed away on December 10, 2024, from complications of lung cancer, according to his family. “The entire Humanim family extends its deepest condolences to Mr. Eddings’ family,” said Cindy Plavier-Truitt, Humanim president and CEO. “Humanim was honored to have his many years of selfless and dedicated service. He truly made Humanim the success it is today, with his influence apparent in everything we do.”

Mr. Eddings served on Humanim’s Board of Directors for 18 years, from 2003 to 2021, holding the position of Board Chair twice during his tenure. His visionary leadership played a critical role in transformative initiatives, including Humanim’s 2003 merger with WorkFirst, which significantly

expanded Humanim’s vocational services in Baltimore City. He was also instrumental in overseeing the American Brewery Project and spearheading the launch of Humanim’s social enterprise division.

Beyond his work with Humanim, Mr. Eddings exemplified a spirit of service, contributing his talents to organizations such as WorkFirst, the Greater Baltimore Committee, Baltimore Reads, the Maryland Commission on Civic Literacy, and the Superintendent’s Panel on Excellence in Adult Education.

To honor his remarkable contributions, Humanim established the Chris Eddings Impact Award, which recognizes individuals who go above and beyond to make a significant difference. The award celebrates those whose dedication and teamwork profoundly impact the lives of others.
