It’s prom season at Humanim, and the Meaningful Day Program in Columbia celebrated with their own event, creating a space for personal expression and incredible memories.
With the theme “Black Tie Affair,” attendees arrived dressed in suits, gowns, and outfits that radiated confidence. The event planning team upheld prom traditions, with each participant receiving a hand-made corsage or boutonniere.
The care behind the celebration extended to every detail. Humanim’s Facilities Manager provided a home-made meal, while day program staff spent the morning mixing and crafting colorful mocktails. Then, the event space was transformed to resemble a starry night, complete with shimmering decorations, a disco ball, and glowing table accents to set the tone for a sparkling event.
With the day filled with music and dancing, each element came together to create an atmosphere where participants felt celebrated and encouraged to fully enjoy the moment.
One participant shared, “I have waited a lifetime for this moment.” Melissa, a Direct Support Professional in the day program and the lead organizer of the event, reflected on the experience with equal enthusiasm. “The smiles on their faces matched the amazing outfits they wore,” she said. “Everyone had this amazing and long-awaited confidence about them.”
For all involved, the Meaningful Day Program’s prom will hold a special place in everyone’s hearts as a memory of the community coming together, being their most authentic selves, while purely living life to the fullest.
