Poolesville High School Places Top 15 in Source America National Design Challenge

Big congrats to the Poolesville High School student team for placing in the Top 15 of the Source America design challenge! Source America holds a national design competition that allows high school students to apply engineering skills to design equipment that will assist individuals with disabilities at their place of work. When approached to participate in the competition, we immediately thought of our consumer Dale, who has been participating in Humanim’s day and vocational programs for over 15 years, and is currently employed at Hohmann and Barnard.

Before working with the students, Dale was using a hand-held scraping tool to remove lettering from rebar caps. While this process was sufficient, the team saw they could develop a better process suited for Dale. The students worked with Humanim and Dale to create a tool that scrapes multiple caps at once, while also improving the quality of work. Dale is pleased with the finished product, and we all look forward to following the rest of the competition!
