A huge congratulations to Lionel and Sonia for receiving the DSP Award from the Maryland Department of Disabilities and the Maryland Department of Health – Developmental Disabilities Administration! Lionel serves as a DSP-Job Coach in our employment services, while Sonia is a dedicated DSP in our Personal Supports program. Both were celebrated at the award ceremony, where they were honored with citations from Governor Wes Moore.
Lionel consistently brings fresh, innovative ideas to the vocational team and is known for being courteous, helpful, and highly respected by colleagues, individuals, and families alike. He sets an exemplary standard, always listening to others with respect and care.
Three years ago, when a co-worker working within Deaf Services was forced to take a leave of absence, Lionel, with very limited signing skills and some reservations, was able to step in and provide vocational support to five deaf individuals. While it was intended to be a short-term role, Lionel excelled so much that he is still working with Deaf Services. Read more about him in our National Disability Employment Awareness Month blog post!
