We are proud to announce that one of our fantastic direct support professionals (DSPs), Shannon Saunders, was selected as a winner of the DSP Recognition Award by the Maryland Department of Health Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) and the Maryland Department of Disabilities (MDOD). Last week, she attended the award ceremony where she was honored and presented with a governor’s citation.

Shannon joined Humanim just 7 months ago, but has already made an incredible impact on our Meaningful Day program participants. She has introduced them to horticulture, foreign languages, and crafts.

When it comes to enriching the lives of our participants, Shannon comes up with creative ways to teach skills like communication and financial literacy.

“I love being able to bring out the best in each individual and watch them thrive,” Shannon said. “Their looks of accomplishment mean the world to me.”

Congratulations to Shannon for her well-deserved recognition in supporting and empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities!
