During Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, we’re proud to spotlight another member of our meaningful day program, Jessica and her journey to independence. With the guidance of her Direct Support Professional (DSP), Linda, and the caring staff in the program, Jessica has shown impressive progress in walking.
Over time, Jessica has grown increasingly comfortable navigating the hallways of our building next to her staff. According to Linda, “Jessica is happy when she’s not sitting in her wheelchair all day” and she “gets excited when she’s being independent.”
Jessica’s journey extends beyond the walls of our program, as she enjoys taking strolls at the mall and spending time at the park. Moving enthusiastically from bench to bench, Jessica lights up with confidence and excitement toward every step she takes.
These days, Jessica walks more than ever! Her DSP shares, “if you can see the huge smile that’s on her face when she completes a walk, it takes your breath away!”
Aligned with this month’s theme, “A World of Opportunities,” Jessica’s story exemplifies the community we’ve cultivated, where every individual can build confidence and achieve their goals. As with Jessica’s journey, we strive to open new doors for those we serve and reveal limitless opportunities for growth and independence.
